AUCHTERMUCHTY GOLFING SOCIETY |
HANDICAPPING Handicaps are maintained in a fashion which is similar to the Scottish Golf Union system but on our Stroke play dates the Society doesn't have sufficient players to generate a Course Standard Scratch score. We take the winner's score and allow 2 shots higher to set the Standard. Anyone within a further 2 strokes is considered in the Buffer Zone and retains his handicap. All others above this mark go up by .1. The winner is cut by 2 times his category (i.e. Category 3 cut by .6, Cat.2 by .4, etc.), anyone within 1 stroke of the winner is cut by 1 times his category. There are anomalies where winners go daft and post scores well below the net par of 71 but these are dealt with individually by the Secretary. He shoots the culprit! Adjustment per stroke beating Standard Scratch:
In general, Society handicaps tend to be a couple of strokes less than national. The maintenance of the differential is the key element. This system works for us, but basically, common sense applies. |
