FLASK 2011
This
year we plan to go again with 3 clubs and a putter over 9 holes, a fun
size morning. I
look forward to seeing everyone then but in the meantime I offer
to you and yours. 22/12/10 TROPHY
WINNERS 2010

CAPTAIN'S DAY Captain's Day was indeed a memorable one as Captain Green' s Sandy Scramble attracted 16 of the possible 22 members and those who were missing all had good reason for their absence, something we can't always say. 4 teams of 4 played a bastardised Texas Scramble for Stableford points. Attendees were sorted into handicap order and each team comprised one from each of the 4 bands of handicaps.
Captain Green welcomed the company prior to tee-off and further attended to his Captain's duties by providing a welcome refreshment at the 10th tee. The winning team of Gatherer, Balfour, Kerr & Paul Smith won with a score of 45 points. The second & third placed teams of McDevitt, Cook, Lindsay & Green and McGilvray, Laing, Imrie & Petrie were one shot further back on 44 points. Brining up the rear a further point away on 43 points were Messrs Drummond, Currie, Masson & Nicoll. This format proved to be a good competition and great fun, played in good spirit throughout. Let's hope for a repetition, maybe even next year?
Cheers, Sandy (and Andy).17/10/2010
CAPTAIN'S DAY This year's Captain's Day on Sunday 17th October looks like
being a memorable one as Captain Sandy Green is intent on pursuing a Sandy
Scramble. As yet I haven't seen the "offeshul" rules but I understand
the competition will take the form of teams of 3 playing a Texas Scramble with
a difference. In memory of 25-year member Andy McGilvray, who died earlier
this year, there will be bonus points to be accrued for those who venture into
Andy's favourite golfing territory, namely bunkers. If any approach shot enters
a bunker then subsequent shots must be played from there. Teams able to
get "up and down" in 2 from the sand will gain a bonus point. At the 8th hole the tee shot target will be Andy's Bunker
rather than the green and there will be bonus points for every team tee-shot
landing therein. Note: Andy's Bunker is the front bunker at the 8th hole and has his Commemorative Rake in it. Did someone say that only a lawyer could devise such a scheme? It will certainly be different but fun, I'm sure. 11/10/2010
STRATHMIGLO TAVERN MATCH
The annual match against our friends from the Strath Tavern resulted in 3 games all but the trophy was won by the opposition who finished 6 holes up overall. 11/10/2010

Auchtermuchty Golfing Society held their 2010 Outing at the Alyth Golf Club on
Friday 4th June. Captain Sandy Green welcomed the party of twenty
three members and guests on a beautiful and sunny day. The company played to a
slightly different format this year with the morning round being devoted to the
usual Scratch & Handicap competitions while the afternoon was given over to
a Texas Scramble. Prize-winners on the day were:
Dave Balfour, Forbes Catto, Graeme Drummond, Brian Imrie, Ken Lang, Roy Nicoll, Neil Powrie, Paul Smith & Pete Smith. After
much deliberation Graeme Drummond was awarded the much-coveted Yellow Jersey. 5/6/2010 Duncan Anderson Duncan, Assistant Professional
at Ladybank for the last two years, has left to pursue his career as assistant
at Murrayfield Golf Club in Edinburgh. On his departure we presented Duncan with
a nice bottle of malt. Duncan has sent a card in response and his words are
"To Martin & the Muchty Boys. Just a wee note to say thank you for the
bottle that I received. I am enjoying my new post at Murrayfield but miss the
friendly banter on a bright Sunday morning from you lot. All the best for the
rest of the season. Duncan". 27/4/2010 Andy McGilvray Andy, a Society member since
1985, died on Monday 29th March after having been diagnosed with gullet cancer
only as recently as November. Our thoughts are with Barbara, Andrew, Dougie & their families.
Andy's cremation will be held in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday 6th April at 11:45 am. 31/3/2010 A. G. M. Summary
